A1 Category motorcycle practical riding COURSE
About the A1 licence
You must be 17 years of age or above to take your (A1) light motorcycle test. You must have a current CBT and your motorcycle theory test certificate. You are required to take your test on a motorcycle of 125cc which we can provide or you can use your own if you prefer.
What is required on the day?
You are required to bring your UK provisional/driving licence. Your current valid CBT certificate and motorcycle theory certificate will be required.
You must wear:
- a motorcycle helmet that meets British safety standards (this doesn’t apply if you’re Sikh and wearing a turban)
- motorcycle boots or other sturdy footwear that provides support and ankle protection
- textile or leather motorcycle trousers or heavy denim trousers
- a textile or leather motorcycle jacket or a heavy denim jacket with several layers underneath
- motorcycle gloves
Your test will be cancelled and you’ll lose your fee if you don’t meet these standards.
What does the A1 entitle me to
Once completed you will be issued with a A1 motorcycle entitlement to ride a bike of 125cc only on your licence.
You can ride without L-plates, carry passengers and use motorways. The licence does not automatically upgrade.
Once you reach 19 years of age or 2 years from the date of passing the A1 tests you then have the option to take your A2 motorcycle tests, you will not be required to have a CBT certificate or retake your theory it is just an upgrade to your licence, which will allow you to ride a bike up to or restricted to 47bhp.
